Agatha of Catania
Agatha of Catania was a young Christian woman martyred in Sicily around 250–251, during the persecution of the emperor Decius. Her martyrdom and early veneration are historically certain — she was honored across the Church within a few generations — but the vivid details of her death (including her severed breasts) survive only in a legend written centuries later. She is venerated as patron of the city of Catania and is invoked against fire, eruptions of Mount Etna, and breast ailments; her 5 February feast is one of the largest saint's festivals in the world.
