Anthony of Padua

Anthony of Padua (born Fernando Martins de Bulhões, Lisbon c. 1195 – Padua 1231) was a Portuguese friar who left the Augustinian canons for the Franciscans and became one of medieval Europe's most sought-after preachers, as well as the order's first teacher of theology. Popularly invoked as the patron of lost things, he died at about thirty-five, was canonised less than a year later in 1232, and was declared a Doctor of the Church (Doctor Evangelicus) in 1946.
