Gabriel the Archangel
Gabriel is the messenger archangel of the Bible — the one who interprets Daniel's visions and, in Luke's Gospel, announces the births of John the Baptist and of Jesus. His name means "God is my strength," and his greeting to Mary, "Hail, thou that art highly favoured," became the opening words of the Hail Mary. The Church keeps his feast on 29 September together with the archangels Michael and Raphael.
