Hubert
Hubert of Liège (c. 655–727) was a Frankish nobleman and royal courtier who, after his wife's death, left palace life for penance in the Ardennes, became a priest and then bishop, and moved his see to a village on the Meuse — an act that effectively founded the city of Liège. Known as the "Apostle of the Ardennes" for his missionary work, he is venerated today as the patron saint of hunters, though the historical Hubert renounced hunting and the famous vision of a glowing crucifix between a stag's antlers is a 15th-century legend borrowed from St Eustace.
