Jerome
Jerome of Stridon (Latin: Hieronymus, c. 347–420) was a Doctor of the Church and the foremost biblical scholar of the early Latin West, who translated the Bible into Latin — the Vulgate — working directly from the original Hebrew and Greek in a cave beside the grotto of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Brilliant, deeply learned, and famously sharp-tongued, he is the patron saint of translators, biblical scholars, and students.
