John Chrysostom

John Chrysostom (c. 349–407) was an early Church Father and the most celebrated preacher of the Greek-speaking Church — his epithet "Chrysostom" means "golden-mouthed," though it was attached to him only after his death. As archbishop of Constantinople he denounced wealth and court corruption so fiercely that the imperial court had him deposed and exiled, and he died on the forced march in 407. He is honored as a Doctor of the Church in the West and among the Three Holy Hierarchs in the East, and the Eucharistic liturgy most used across Orthodoxy still bears his name.
