John Henry Newman
John Henry Newman (1801–1890) was an English theologian and the intellectual leader of the Oxford Movement who, as the most celebrated Anglican clergyman of his day, converted to Roman Catholicism in 1845 at enormous personal cost and was later made a cardinal. He is best remembered for his candid spiritual autobiography, the Apologia Pro Vita Sua, and for the hymn "Lead, Kindly Light"; he was canonized in 2019 and declared a Doctor of the Church in 2025.
