Luke the Evangelist

Luke the Evangelist was, by ancient and consistent tradition, a Gentile physician — probably a Greek from Antioch — and a travelling companion of the apostle Paul, credited with writing the Gospel of Luke and its sequel, the Acts of the Apostles, which together make up more of the New Testament than any other single author wrote. Though he never met Jesus, his careful "orderly account" gathered eyewitness testimony and preserved scenes found in no other Gospel — the Good Samaritan, the Prodigal Son, and the Magnificat, Benedictus, and Nunc Dimittis sung daily by the Church. (Modern scholarship is roughly evenly divided on whether Luke the physician was truly the author; the works name no one.)
