Mary Magdalene
Mary Magdalene was a first-century follower of Jesus from the Galilean town of Magdala, healed of "seven demons," who stayed at the cross when most disciples had fled and became the first witness to the resurrection. Sent by the risen Christ to carry the news to the disciples, she is honored as the "apostle to the apostles" (apostola apostolorum). The Gospels never call her a prostitute — that image comes from a sixth-century conflation of three women, not from Scripture.
