Monica
Monica of Thagaste (c. 331/332–387) was a North African Christian and the mother of Augustine of Hippo, known almost entirely through his Confessions. For roughly seventeen years she wept, prayed, and pleaded for the conversion of her brilliant, wayward son, and she is venerated as the patron saint of mothers and of persevering prayer.
