Philip the Apostle

Philip the Apostle was one of the Twelve chosen by Jesus, a native of the fishing town of Bethsaida in Galilee (the same town as Peter and Andrew). The Gospel of John gives him four speaking moments — most memorably his invitation to the skeptical Nathanael, "Come and see," and his request at the Last Supper, "Lord, show us the Father," which drew out one of Jesus' plainest statements about his own identity. Tradition holds he later preached and was martyred at Hierapolis in Asia Minor, though the details of his death are legendary and his story is tangled with a second man, Philip the Deacon.
