Sebastian

Sebastian was an early Christian martyr of third-century Rome — one of the few named in the city's oldest surviving calendar of martyrs (the Depositio Martyrum of 354) and buried on the Via Appia. Although almost nothing about his life is documented, he became one of the most-painted saints in Christian art (the youth pierced with arrows) and, from the 7th century onward, a leading intercessor invoked against plague and sickness.
